Pole and Aerial photography is a specialized niche of photography that focuses on capturing individuals performing pole dancing or fitness routines. It highlights the strength, flexibility, grace, and artistry of pole dancers while often emphasizing dramatic poses, fluid motion, and unique lighting to showcase the dancer’s skill and the visual appeal of the pole.
Don Curry has made a name for him self with over 17 years of experience traveling the world as an aerial pole photographer. We interviewed him to get some tips and tricks for photography.
How did you get into photography?
I come from an artistic expressive family. Music, photography, art, films and any type of “creative expression” was introduced to me at a very young age.
Why pole/aerial photography?
I got into it the same reason you do it: I enjoy it and it’s been transformative.
Do you have any tips, advice for photo shoots?
***PHOTO SHOOT TIPS:
1. Please arrive 30min - 1hour early to warm up, stretch etc..
Warm up and stretching is important to prevent injury and also execute tricks with ease for the photo.
2. Please research and screenshot/bring 15-20 examples of poses, tricks, floor work you would like to do at the photo shoot.
Research is always the be best way to make sure you get the must out of your photo shoot so you have an idea of what you want to look like etc.
3.Please feel free to watch my BTS on IG stories to get a feel of what to expect.
Especially if you have never done a photo shoot before seeing the live footage helps you prepare.
4. Feel free to bring someone to assist you/Record & post BTS footage etc...
Everyone wants behind the scene footage to post on their socials so having a friend be able to record that is always welcomed.
5. HAVE FUN!
Try not to over think it. Having fun and feeling comfortable is important because it'll show through the camera lens,.
