Why Women Are Craving Joyful Movement Again — And Why Pole Dancing Is Exploding

Over the last few years, I’ve noticed something changing.
Women are exhausted by workout culture that makes them feel like they constantly need to “fix” themselves. So many of us grew up believing exercise had to be punishment — endless cardio, forcing ourselves through workouts we hated, obsessing over calories, or feeling uncomfortable in gym spaces that never truly felt welcoming.

But now? Women are craving something different.
They want movement that feels joyful again.
As the owner of Girl Next Door Fitness, I hear it all the time from new students walking through our doors:“ I just want to feel confident again.” “I want to feel comfortable in my body.” “I miss feeling feminine.” “I need something fun.” “I want to do something for ME.”
And honestly… I understand that deeply.

Pole dancing is growing so quickly right now because it offers something most workouts don’t: connection. Not just connection with other women, but connection with yourself.
At our studio, we always say our mission is helping women feel confident in their own skin. That confidence doesn’t come from looking perfect. It comes from showing up scared and trying anyway. It comes from realizing your body is capable of more than you thought. It comes from hearing another woman cheer for you when you finally nail a move you’ve been struggling with for weeks.
There’s something really powerful about walking into a room full of women supporting each other instead of competing with each other.

And as someone who is hearing impaired, building that kind of welcoming environment has always been deeply important to me. I know what it feels like to sometimes feel different or uncomfortable in spaces that weren’t built with you in mind. That’s one of the reasons I wanted Girl Next Door Fitness to feel approachable, supportive, and judgment-free from the very beginning.
You do not need to be strong. You do not need dance experience. You do not need the “perfect body. ”You do not need confidence before you start.
So many women think pole fitness is only for a certain type of person, but the truth is, most of our students start nervous. Many have never danced before in their lives. Some are rebuilding confidence after motherhood, divorce, anxiety, burnout, or simply years of putting themselves last.

Then little by little, something changes.
They start standing taller. They stop apologizing for taking up space. They smile more. They make friends. They begin celebrating what their bodies can DO instead of criticizing how they look.
That transformation is why I love what I do.
Pole dancing isn’t just about tricks or spins. It’s about confidence, expression, strength, healing, and joy. In a world where so many people feel disconnected and overwhelmed, women are searching for experiences that make them feel alive again.
And sometimes, that healing starts with walking into a pole studio for the very first time.

At Girl Next Door Fitness, we’re not just teaching pole tricks. We’re building confidence, community, and a place where women can truly feel comfortable being themselves.
And honestly? I think that’s why pole dancing is exploding right now.
Women are no longer looking for punishment.
They’re looking for joy.
